Apart from these, the sanctuary also houses a variety of resident birds such as White Bellied Treepies, Egrets, Cormorants, Black Hooded Orioles, Hoopoes and many more. How to Reach Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary ?

The sanctuary is located at 77 kms from the town of Ballavpur. The sanctuary remains open on all days of the week except Wednesdays. The timings to visit the sanctuary are from 10 AM in the morning to 4 PM in the afternoon. In order to reach the Ballavpur WLS by car one can take the NH 2 and then proceed towards the North on the old Midnapur road. Thereafter, move from NH 2 and drive towards Kuldiha. Next go on driving on the Morgram-Panagarh Highway towards Surul. Finally Shantiniketan will emerge and thereafter the destination can be reached after passing by the campus of Vishwa Bharti University (3 kms from the destination). The car route takes almost 2 hours to reach the destination from Ballavpur town.

The sanctuary can also be reached via passenger trains by starting from the Raniganj Railway Station and then getting down at the Bolpur Railway Station. The state-owned buses can also be availed to get to this sanctuary.

Best Time to Visit Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary

The winter months remain pleasant with minimum temperature dropping down to 10 degree Celsius. Summer months are quite hot with maximum temperature shooting up to 40 degree Celsius or even above 40 at times. From June to September the sanctuary experiences the blissful monsoon time. Every year in August or September a grand fair which is famous as the “Poush Mela” is celebrated here. This fair is attended by thousands of individuals from the various towns and cities located in the vicinity. The rainy season is the best time to visit this lush sanctuary. During this time the place is soaked in vegetation. The deer of the sanctuary take pleasure in the rain. During the winter season a myriad of migratory birds make nests in the wet lands and water bodies of the sanctuary.
